Starting 5ive: Beat Iran!

September 28, 2015
It was a convincing and well-deserved win by Gilas Pilipinas over powerhouse Iran. Pinag-isipan. Pinagplanuhan. Walang chamba.

Shell-shocked, Iran? Sorry, but this is a new Gilas Pilipinas team. That big guy faking 3s and hitting circus shots? You must’ve known him from the NBA. The flashy guy with the fancy dribbling, that’s the PBA’s scoring champ. And the guy who hounded Haddadi inside like a pest? They call him The Beast.

The last time these two teams met in the 2013 FIBA Asia tournament, the Philippines did not have Andray Blatche. At the recent Jones Cup, Iran didn’t see much of  Terrence Romeo, who had to leave the game early with a sprained ankle while Calvin Abueva saw limited action due to foul trouble.

In Monday’s game, Blatche, Romeo, and Abueva not only introduced themselves, they made sure the Iranians won’t forget their names.

You remember Asia’s best point guard, yes?

This is Gilas 3.0.
