Starting 5ive: Thank you, NBA

November 11, 2015
After months of sadness and deep depression, the NBA finally served its daily dose of games three weeks ago. And as expected–unless you’re a die-hard Lakers fan–it has been all kinds of glorious.

If you’re a casual NBA fan like us, this is how your day must have been like for the past three weeks: Wake up at 8 a.m. to catch the East coast games, tune in to League Pass, log on Twitter, check Vine for highlights, check YouTube for longer highlights, watch The Starters for highlights (and bloopers) you may have missed, analyze post-game stats, scrape the bottom of the waiver wire barrel for fantasy gems, catch the West coast games at 11 a.m., repeat the process, then eat breakfast. Keep at it, champ, we’re with you until June.

But if you have no idea what’s happening in the NBA (a. Why? b. How are you still breathing?), we got you covered, too.

RUSS BEING RUSS

After eight games of sharing the ball with KD, Russell Westbrook is averaging 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 11 assists. Yawn.

DETROIT BASKETBALL

Andre Drummond has been crazy to start the season, putting up averages of nearly 20 points and 20 rebounds in seven games. His co-crazy, Reggie Jackson, is averaging 28 points per game to help Detroit not suck and hold a noteworthy (in Eastern conference standards) 5-2 record.

HE’S COMING TO TOWNS (AND OTHER LAME PUNS)

The first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft is trying very hard to prove he’s not a bust. So far, his 16pts-10rebs-3blks per game will save him from The Curse.

GOLDEN STATE CHAMPIONS

No team has ever won all 82 games. Is what Draymond Green and Steph Curry tell themselves in the mirror every night before bedtime. If there’s a team more entertaining than the Warriors, let us know.
