Just when you think Manila basketball couldn’t get any better, Nike taps talented artist Arturo Torres to design awe-inspiring murals on courts across the city.
If you’re familiar with Shea Serrano’s work, then you’d know Arturo Torres as the man behind the artwork in Serrano’s New York Times bestseller The Rap Year Book and, more recently, Basketball (And Other Things).
If you’re not, then you should seriously consider reassessing your life goals and reexamine how you spend your time on the internet.
In his latest gig, Torres was tapped by Nike to transform five courts across Manila into the closest thing we’ll ever get from basketball paradise using drawings of five NBA superstars.
The five—LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving, and Kobe Bryant—are depicted as modern-day superheroes in Torres’ illustrations, staying on brand with his comic-book style drawings.
“I want the kids that play on these courts to know that they can be like the superstars I’ve drawn. Sure you have to put in the work, but no one can tell that you can’t do something. With Nike Hyper Court you can go out there and prove them wrong – to anyone that’s ever said no to you,” said Torres.
Find a Thor-like LeBron at the Titan Love Court at the Bonifacio Global City; a high-energy KD at the Comembo Covered Court in Makati; an on-fire Westbrook at the Scarlet Homes Covered Court in Paranaque; a Kyrie breezing like the wind at the YCL Covered Court in Quezon City; and an earth-moving Kobe at the Ususan Court in Taguig.
Aside from allowing ballers to step on greatness, the courts also allow visitors to connect to the Nike Hyper Court app and gain free access to content, powered by Google technology, which includes training drills, elevated member activities, and Nike global basketball content.
Check out the amazing courts below, then get some runs in the one nearest you.
